Equipment

  • 1 wok
  • 1 small bowl
  • 1 plate

Ingredients

Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 11/2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Chinese rice wine
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

Stir-fry:

  • 11/2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 clove garlic crushed
  • 1 small onion sliced
  • 1 pound beef sirloin sliced thinly against the grain
  • 2 bell peppers 1 red and 1 green, cut into squares
  • Steamed rice to serve

Instructions

  • Put all sauce ingredients in a small bowl and whisk until well combined. Set aside.
  • Over high heat, heat oil in a wok until it smokes. Add garlic and onion and sauté until onion is translucent, about one minute, making sure that the garlic doesn’t burn.
  • Add beef and stir-fry for about a minute more or until beef is cooked to your liking. Transfer all to a plate.
  • Lower heat to medium high. Pour sauce mixture into the wok and simmer for a minute or until it becomes syrupy.
  • Put back beef and onion into wok, toss until beef warmed through and evenly coated with sauce.
  • Serve immediately with rice.

Notes

The key to adding a burst of color and crunch to your Chinese Pepper Steak lies in the selection of bell peppers. Choose a variety of bell peppers in different colors, such as red, green, and yellow. Slice them into thin strips to ensure even cooking. Stir-fry the bell peppers until they are crisp-tender, retaining their vibrant hues and adding a delightful crunch to the dish.
