Equipment

  • 1 large pan
  • 1 bowl

Ingredients

Sauce:

  • 3 cups cold water
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

Other ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 pounds spareribs chopped into 11/2-inch pieces

Instructions

  • Prepare the sauce by mixing all the ingredients in a bowl. Set aside.
  • Heat oil in a large pan. Cook spareribs over medium heat for about 5 to 10 minutes or until brown on both sides. Pour in sauce over spareribs. Bring to a boil, then adjust heat to medium Simmer for about 20 minutes or until sauce is thick and caramel-like then immediately transfer to a plate. The sauce shouldn’t be cooked too long because it can burn easily.
  • Toss spareribs with the sauce until well-coated. Serve.

Notes

To infuse the spareribs with an explosion of flavors, a well-crafted marinade is essential. Create a marinade by combining soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, and a touch of Chinese five-spice powder. The soy sauce adds a savory note, while the hoisin sauce lends a hint of sweetness and depth. The honey brings a delightful stickiness, and the garlic and ginger provide that signature Chinese flavor. Allow the spareribs to marinate in this glorious mixture for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to enhance the taste and tenderize the meat.
