Sinar Pagi Nasi Padang

When craving for Muslim food, in particular Nasi Padang, it is always the ideal choice to visit this place known as “Pasar Geylang Serai”, which is a market on the first level and a food centre on the second level.

Known to be the paradise of Muslim food, “Pasar Geylang Serai” is definitely an iconic food centre that you must definitely visit!

The food centre is equally spacious and clean, while finding a stall that really stands out from the rest was indeed a challenge, as every stall looked equally delicious & great!

This stall in particular, “Sinar Pagi Nasi Padang” has won our food recommendation to visit! It has been around since 1966, having won the confirmation of the Malay community and numerous food critics’ awards!

It has a vibrant, extensive range of dishes to choose from, which are all placed nicely in rows of the display cabinet! All the food look equally delicious and good to try especially upon first sight of the different myriad of colours available!

A beautiful myriad of colours available!
I ordered a plate of rice along with several dishes such as BBQ chicken, Asam Petas (Stink Bean), Achaar (pickles) and topped it off with some vegetable curry & sambal chilli! It was served on a plate with banana leaf laid on top of it, making it look even more appealing! The BBQ chicken was well-cooked with flavour, consisting of a layer of crisp BBQ skin! The meat was equally flavourful from the BBQ grill and the gravy that comes along with it, which both help to sweeten up the overall taste!
A scrumptious plate of Nasi Padang!

I personally enjoy the Sambal Petai (Stink Bean), as the bean itself has been thoroughly cooked with the Sambal chilli sauce, producing a sweet, spicy flavour & fragrant aroma with every single bite. The Achaar (pickles) on the other hand, were more on the sour side, so I would have preferred if they could have been sweeter in taste like the Chinese Style Achaar. I also enjoyed the vegetable curry & sambal chilli as they helped to complement the overall dish by giving it an extra punch in flavour!
Good food is definitely worth the wait!
Overall, it was a mouth-watering dish to savour, especially if one has a craving for Nasi Padang! Apart from that, there are also numerous muslim stalls that sell other kinds of food, so you will definitely be spoilt for choices when visiting this place!
